What is tobacco?
Tobacco
comes from a plant called Nicotiana tabacum.
Smoking Facts:
- Every ten seconds someone dies
from smoking or tobacco use. That is six people per minute and 360
people per hour.
- If
you smoke you can die 20 to 25 years earlier then people who have
never smoked.
- Every cigarette is 5 minutes less time that you have to live.
- Most people started smoking before they are 18.
- If you started smoking when you
were 14 and smoked about a pack a week for 2 years and then you went to two
packs a week until your 20, then you could have just shorted your life by 173.3
hours or more!
- You can start to develop problems
such as clogged arteries, lung diseases, or even death.
- Smoking is one of the
most common causes of death, with nearly 10,000 smokers per day dying. You don’t
always die though, but if you do live, there is practically NO chance of you
living a healthy life.
Smoking While Pregnant
Smoking when
pregnant gives the child and increased risk of being infected with a disease, have brain
damage, or have a still-birth.
