It is illegal to buy alcohol under the age of 18.

Not all drinks are the same strength, for example, 2 cans of Carlsberg Special Brew are stronger than 5 cans of Heineken.

Home-poured spirits are usually much bigger sizes than pub ones.

A rough guide:

One unit of alcohol = 

• 1/2  pint of ordinary beer 
•  Small glass of wine 
• 2/3 of a bottle of alcopops  
• 1 pub measure (small glass) of spirits
• Small glass of sherry
