Drink strength is measured in units. It’s pretty easy to remember:

One unit= 

• 1/2  pint of ordinary beer 
•  Small glass of wine 
• 2/3 of a bottle of alcopops  
• 1 pub measure (small glass) of spirits
• Small glass of sherry

Real drinking’s not so simple, though, because not all drinks are the same. Two cans of Carlsberg Special Brew are stronger than 5 cans of Heineken. Home-poured spirits are usually much bigger sizes than pub ones.
