6) School Trips Mandie

The culture problem is that because I am a Muslim my Mum thinks it's best for me to stay at home because I am female, and I should not be away for a week, and also because there will be boys too. I really want to go though, because I always have to miss out on trips away. Reply

Why not talk to your Mum about it, or to the person organising the trip? Maybe ask your Mum that if one of your friends that she likes acts as a chaperone, you'd be able to go? You shouldn't feel that you're missing out just because of what you believe.

School residentials aren't just about going away for a week and having a good time, although that is what they are targeted towards: they're about learning to live around other people, and learning to fit around other people's routines and ways of life. It is an important part of learning. Imagine if you went away to live in halls of residence in a university, and you'd never stayed away from home. You wouldn't know where to begin. It's about having some freedom to learn a bit more about yourself. You also find out a lot about what annoying habits you have too! Reply
