re: (no title) Cookie

I think that's a bit harsh, I mean, I'm sure there are plenty of Icelandic people who don't agree with it. Unfortunately Scientific research is allowed, athlough possibly only in until 2009 in the E.U.

Truth is, it is incredibly cold there in winter, and whale used to be harpooned for blubber. Their bodies were used for meat, and their blubber for cosmetics, chewing gum, oil and wax. It's very useful stuff. Anyway, whale blubber became sociably unacceptable in the UK in the 60s/70s, around the same time as the anti-fur rallies. This actually caused more animals to die, because cosmetics companies had to test a whole load of things on animals to develop replacement ingredients to blubber.

If a whale species is endangered then it is protected by law. They cannot harpoon them without permission, and it is very unlikely that they will get it is the whale is on the endangered species list, so don't worry. If they are allowed, then Greenpeace have quite strong grounds to step in, and at the least the hunters/researchers could be fined a lot of money.

It sounds like you've been reading a bit of propaganda. Nothing has happened yet, and the evidence strongly suggests that nothing will.  Reply
