What do they do? Rocks

No,
you will look exactly the same on outside. You don't feel
that different either, apart from when you're actually on. All that happens is
that the lining of the uterus breaks down and causes a small amount of bleeding.
Although it may seem like buckets-full at the time, you only actually loose
about two tablespoons, as what may seem like only blood really consists of fluids
from the cervix mixed with the lining of the uterus stained with blood. (Sound
like something the Macbeth weird sisters would concoct, doesn't it?!)
Some women get stomach, back or kidney
cramps during their periods (the medical name is dysmenorrhoea - what a long
word, but sounds serious, doesn't it?!). Some also suffer PMT which is a few
minor symptoms on the lead-up week, and more tummy pains an headaches (great!).
Don't worry, it really is nothing to
worry about. No one will be able to tell that you've started unless you tell
them - not your mates or the boys or your teacher; nobody.
