I want to be one, but it will ruin all of my family's meals, what happens at your mealtimes??? Well, no-one else in my family is a vegetarian so I suppose it is too late to change! Reply

It's never too late to turn veggie, if that's what you definitely want to do.
Make a
list of everything you eat in a week. When the week is up, take a highlighter
pen and highlight everything that has meat or animal by-products (gelatine,
rennet...) in. Next, go to the supermarket, and get a member of staff,
preferably a veggie one, to show you all the meat substitutes and talk to you
about them. The supermarkets will have their own stuff like lentil bakes, etc..
but they'll be able to show you where the quorn, soya, tofu, etc... is. Take a
small portion sample of the ones you like the sound of, and then get your list,
and write on what you can substitute for the meat on each day. Sometimes this
may be unnecessary - for example, beans on toast. Then try it for a week, eating
the same as your family with only that little bit substituted. At the end of the
week, sit down with your mum or whoever does the cooking/food shopping and
evaluate the week. What products did you like, and which didn't you like, and do
you want to carry on being veggie? Take it for a fortnight, then a month, and if
you still like it after a month then go for it.
New vegetarians and
people who are thinking about becoming veggie can e-mail Viva! for a vegetarian
diet information pack including recipes and suggested recipe books, health
benefits a change of diet can give, a copy of vivactive and some funky posters.
There is also a teen/schools information part on the Vegetarian Society site
which you will find useful.
Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Yeah, I'm veggie! I'm veggie because I like animals but you die earlier if you eat meat. Try to convert u r friends - I got one of mine to go veggie. Reply

That is
partly true, but not necessarily. It can minimize the risk of diabetes in
later life, heart failure, high blood pressure, high cholesterol......(lots of
other health benefits), but you don't necessarily live longer, just healthier.
Just changing your diet wont guarantee you a healthy life.
To
start with, vegetarians and vegans who don't watch protein levels aren't
healthy, and neither are those who take no exercise. There are also vegetarians
who don't like vegetables - do you think they're healthy?
Vegetarianism can be a step in
the right direction to a healthier lifestyle, but it is not the answer by a long
way.
