Pubic Hair

When will they start growing?

Girls start growing pubic hair between about nine and 13, but probably won't get their full quota for a few years.

Why do we have pubes?

Our pubic hair is there to protect our bits, regulate our body temperature and, believe it or not, to act as nature's arrow telling boys where the action is! (It dates from when our pre-historic ancestors needed a helping hand in continuing the human race.)

Do I need to shave them before sex?

No, definitely not. Everyone's got pubes, it's part of what makes us women rather than girls. If you're close enough with a lad to get intimate, the last thing he'll be worrying about is your pubes!

If you're desperate to tidy your pubic hair, you can shave it if you want, although using a depilatory cream, which dissolves the hairs, is kinder to your skin. Shaving can lead to painful ingrowing hairs and itchiness, and waxing is asking for trouble (OUCH!).
If you do decide to shave, carefully trim the hairs with nail-scissors and have a warm bath first. Then use a sensitive-skin shave gel and a new razor, and only shave the pubes you can see (i.e. don't shave between your legs).
Warning: shaved pubes itch like hell while they're growing back!
