Where you can make a difference

Are celebrities setting us a good example with their weight? Are they too skinny, overweight, and does it really matter?

Ducky -  "I think it is defiantly wrong for celebrities to be too thin because teenagers, especially girls, are inclined to copy them which puts them at risk of illness and other nasty things. It still bad but not as bad to be fat in the celebrity world because no one is going to put on weight to be like someone because no one feels attracted to them."

Gemma - "I think some celebs are too thin and need to stop worrying about what others think of them and just get a grip! But some just have a nice figure. I don't think it matters the size of people because look at Dawn French, she's bloody hilarious!! Though Rick Waller is the size of China and I think he should make an effort to shift some of those pounds!  I admire them but I don't compare them to me or anyone else!"

Rosie - " I think that celebs should come in all shapes and sizes to the point that is healthy. I think celebs that are too fat or too thin should really try to fix it."

James - "I think that celebs can look like anything that they want, if they think being thin gives them a better look, then hey?, why not. "

Julia - "Why don't they just eat like the rest of us, and exercise! Exercising is healthier than dieting anyway, and it sets a good example."

Anna - "Celebs (unless they are models) are out there to show off their talent not their appearance. I think we all need to remember that. People should eat if they are hungry! It doesn't matter if celebs and other people choose to make themselves ill by not eating properly."

Danni - "I think they should be sending out a better message. Who cares if you don't look like a stick insect? It's these diets that start most of the bullying because you don't look like a star that has been on a diet."

Emily - "Leave the celebs alone! If they didn't stay thin, journalists and news reporters would insult their weight! Look at what happened to Kelly Clarkson! I think it's the fault of the tabloids."

Sophia - "I think some celebs must be pretty stupid to go through dangerous diets. They should take the time to actually go outside and maybe do some exercise."

Tamar - "Celebrities are under pressure to look good. If Beyonce was fat and ugly she wouldn't be a star no matter how talented she is. Which is a bad thing because it puts so much pressure on her, and just makes the problem worse for kids who are worried about their looks."

Jen - "Yeah, I do think they're too thin, but people could look at me & say I'm too fat (which would be true). I don't think weight should matter. I don't think a overweight person shouldn't have the same opportunities as thinner people. I mean, there are not many "large" celebs are there? From what I've heard Rick Waller is a bit of a joke, which is a shame, because he had a good voice. I was in the pub last night & this girl said when Pop Idol was on "Get that fat b***h off!", which made me think she was a bit insecure about herself."

Liberty - "Celebs become a joke in the media world, and take off the importance of how eating disorders are extremely dangerous.. they don't realise how their fans will do anything to be like them.."

True_Greenday_Supporter - "I'm not really, sure. I think its good to have overweight celebrities on tv .. sometimes It depends really. If they're eating a packet of crisps for an advert or somewhat like then I don't agree with it."

~**This_Is_My_Destiny**~ -"I'm not totally sure, becuase if there were only thin celebs people would say that isn't real life, but they get slagged off for being fat too!!!"

Would you change the way you look to be like a celebrity?

Red Devil - "I think if people are happy with themselves, celebs included, then it doesn't matter how fat or thin you are (as long as you're healthy)"

Eternal - "I'm not influenced by celebs if they are fat or thin, especially if they're thin because I'm thin too."

Rach - "I don't think I am really influenced by celebs, more by my friends, when it comes to fat and thin, but a lot of people are. I think that it does show you should just be who you are, but in the overweight case, I don't really think that is good, because we need to cut down on unhealthy foods."

Superstar girl - "Seeing celebrities doesn't make me want to change my size. I'm just average. Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham have both looked ill in the past so I don't see why people would want to change and look ill."

James - "I myself am not pressured by the way they look and fell it is my choice about my size. Having larger celebs will encourage people that are fat to feel normal and visa versa."

Kirsty - "Celebs are always going on about losing weight. Children want to look like celebs, so they start losing weight and sometimes get seriously hurt. I think you should appreciate the way your body is."

Zoe - "Celebrities do set a bad example, and the media always says so. On the other hand, this is often followed by reports of 'child obesity' etc. etc. So perhaps we shouldn't just blame the celebrities."

Jacob - "My big sister eats hardly anything because she sees how slim all the celebs are. I don't think they should tell people how much they eat because it makes people feel really bad because they eat more than them."

Gemma - "Lots of people idolise Beyonce and kids are going to think that starving yourself to lose weight is a good idea because it works for her. It's even worse because she seems *proud* of it and she says that she doesn't think she's thin enough, when she's a lot thinner than most of us will ever be. She's suggesting that we should all be obsessive about the way we look, and if she turns anorexic, that's her fault."

Lou - "My friend didn't eat much at all for 3 months and lost 2 stone. She encouraged me to do the same, I felt a lot of pressure from the media and my friends to be thin. I started just eating apples and collapsed because of malnutrition. I think Beyonce should be putting out a better message."

Ryan - "I think its terrible when these celebrities start going on about how they only eat this and that and exercise here and there! There are so many people who suffer because of watching their weight or eating too little, and here they are attention seeking when they have enough written about them every day of the week! So many children and young people look up to these people, and when they speak out like this its really damaging for these children who immediately start copying them! Celebrities need to think before they speak!!"

Sarah - "Celebs are under pressure to look good but people can't put the blame on them because kids like us copy them. They can not control our actions, only we can!"

Imogen - "They ought to try to use the brains God gave them to realise they're setting a terrible example to kids. I'm quite big for my age but I realise now that size doesn't matter."

Kinder Egg - "Well, sometimes I do compare myself to celebs, and think I'm fat and go on a diet. But then again I think "Well that's them, not me?""

Does watching sport make you feel more active, and do sports personalities achieving amazing goals make you want to exercise?

Red Devil - "When I watched the FA cup final it didn't make me feel anymore active, I play sport anyway (Badminton, Tennis) if anything it made me feel more tired because I'd spent 5hrs watching it! Though every year when I watch Wimbledon & see people playing tennis, it really makes me want to play so normally I play LOADS of tennis around that time!"

Ducky - "Yes, when I saw the London marathon, I wanted to go out running, but I didn't! Shame! I could do with the exercise!!"

Rach -" I play a lot of sport anyway so that doesn't make a change, though watching footy makes me want to play it!"

Gemma - "Seeing others running around like headless chickens and winning gold medals for it is fine but I don't think it should make others feel guilty about themselves! If you want to loose a few pounds get on that treadmill! But don't do it just because you want to be like everyone else! You've got to be independent!"

Superstar girl - "I love taking part in sports anyway, but I don't know if it effects other people when they watch sports. I suppose it could make lads want to go and have a kick around in the garden after watching a match, but watching busted has made me want to learn to play guitar!"

Rosie - "Sport makes me either want to party (if the right team/person wins) or go and sulk (if the wrong team/person wins). but I'm really passionate about sport, so maybe its just me!"

James - "I am a sport lover, if the tennis, athletics, football, etc. is on then I will take and interest, it sometimes will encourage me to play that sport and be more active."

Kinder Egg - "When I watch the athletics, I really want to get active, and get out there."

True_Greenday_Supporter - "Yes. It does. Although, they don't promote sports like skating and thats a good sport as well. So not all of the sports appeal to everyone. They should show more of a range on TV."

~**This_Is_My_Destiny**~ -"I wouldn't take up marathon running if Paula Radcliffe won a race!!!"

Do you follow what the celebs wear, or do you make your own way? Do you think celebs effect fashion, and are  you influenced by fashion or by celebrity actions?

Red Devil - "If I see a celeb wearing something I think looks nice, I don't go out & buy it because A) it's going to be really expensive B) its going to be really inappropriate to wear around the house or go shopping in! If I saw a celeb wearing something nice & practical, maybe I would buy something like it, but not because a celeb was wearing, but just because I liked it!"

Ducky - "I never follow what a celebrity wears unless I genuinely like it and, yes, I do think they wear stuff they're not keen on just to get attention!"

Eternal - "Sometimes fashion can influence me and other people"

Rach - "I think fashion affects me though, because if you see something nice and someone famous is wearing, you would think it would b popular and not a 'no buy' although I don't really follow celeb fashion."

Superstar girl - "I don't follow what anyone wears, even celebs. If I buy clothes it's because I like them and I want to buy them, not just because some famous person has got them. I know someone that goes through magazines and will only wear stuff that the people are wearing in that. They don't even suit her half the time. I don't let celebs influence the way I am, because that would be me trying to turn into something I'm not. I just do what I like, wear what I like and I'm happy that way."

Star-seeker - "I think doing that can really effect the way we live our lives, a lot of those celebs don't care squat about our well-being or how they influence us, just so they make money. I think when celebs act really normal and down to earth, that's when they become most admirable, and as for clothes...I can't afford what they wear - (lol!)."

Rosie - "I think we are affected by the way celebs dress, but I don't always dress like celebs I actually like... if I like their clothes I'll see what they look like on me!"

James - "I take no notice of what other celebs wear and if they only wear clothes to look 'in fashion' then they are sad! I try not to care about their actions."

Kinder Egg - "Most of what the celebs wear are for awards, and sometimes what they wear is to revealing for me, and watching them walking about like that just makes me feel cold. Fashion doesn't affect me...... but I do watch what I wear so I'm not too out of date!"

Jen - "I don't follow what the celebs are wearing. I wear what I want, what makes me feel comfy. The only thing I might copy is the make up! I know the celebs aren't perfect because I'm a trained make up artist now, and I know its all make up!!"

True_Greenday_Supporter - "I'd never follow what celebs wear. Pureply because I don't really like any of the stuff. I feel that celebs learn to like what they wear, eventually. If they really disliked what they wore, why not just wear what they're comfy in? They always think they have to start new trends, etc but why?"

~**This_Is_My_Destiny**~ -"I do follow fashion trends sometimes, but only the ones that suit me , doesn't matter whether they look great on celebs if I can't look good in them!!!"

sclub_krazy_ravenclaw's_mad_girl - "For all my 'beauty is skin deep' belief, there are times when you want to be like a certain celeb. Only i try not to turn myself into them, I adapt it for my own way. If I think a celeb is really charitable, for example, instead of doing what they do and offer million (heck-I'm not that rich!) I'd go and do what I can.

"With fashion, I have never thought of myself as copying someone. If I see a celeb wear clothes I like, I'd go and buy it, but that's not because of the celeb though. I just naturally pick out aspects of what people wear and then adapt it to what I'd like... and I do that to everyone I see, the school sixth formers, kids on the street, to celebs..."
